The Old Drogheda Society will launch a new exhibition in Drogheda Museum Millmount tomorrow, Wednesday, December 3rd at 7pm. Oh What A Lovely War - Drogheda and the First World War.
Around 170 young Drogheda men died horrifically in the First World War
Who were they?
Why did they go ?
What did they die for ?
This new exhibition answers some of these questions and the exhibition will be available Monday to Saturday 10am to 5.30pm and on Sundays 2pm - 5pm.
The launch on Wednesday night will be followed by the launch of a fascinating ne publication from Community Historian, Brendan Matthews, unravelling the tale of social conditions in Drogheda during the Great Famine of 1847 and the background to the story that food-aid was delivered to the port of Drogheda in that year by the Ottoman Empire. In his book Drogheda and the Ottoman Empire Ships of 1847 , Brendan's extensive research gives a outlook into what did happen in Drogheda in that year.
Refreshments will be served on the night and there will be a bookstall with a wide variety of books of local interest that will make ideal Christmas gifts. All welcome.
